Men Run for their Lives and Others

On Father’s Day, 20 June, more than 3,000 men took to Bellahouston Park for the fifth annual Men’s Health Forum Scotland (MHFS) 10K for Men, raising a staggering amount estimated at £400,000 for charities across the country.

Recent evidence has revealed that men in Glasgow have the lowest life expectancy in the UK and MHFS is trying to change this by encouraging Scotland’s men to take a healthier approach.

The 10k event, which is UK’s first men-only 10k, seeks to raise awareness amongst men about the importance of improving their health by highlighting that simple lifestyle changes, like increasing your activity levels by joining a men’s jogging group, can have a positive impact on their emotional and physical wellbeing.

One organisation that supported the MHFS 10k for Men this year is Paisley-based Life Technologies. The team of 17 managed to raise a fantastic total of £1,640 for Men’s Health Forum Scotland, making their fundraising efforts the largest single team donation to the charity this year.

Eva Asante, director of the Men’s Health Forum Scotland, said:

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all those that took part in, supported and donated money through this year’s MHFS 10K for Men, including the Life Technologies team. The success has been incredible.  £400,000 is a fantastic total to raise and I am sure that these deserving charities will also be overwhelmed.

“The MHFS 10k for Men is a great way to encourage men to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.  I hope next year’s event will attract even more men and build on our place as an established event in Scotland’s calendar.”

Peter Silvester, General Manager for EMEA at Life Technologies said:

“We are firm believers that by actively encouraging and supporting our employees’ wellbeing, raising some money to support charity and having some fun in the process, we stand behind our company values.

“We have a terrific team here and are delighted that so many of our employees rose to the challenge and participated in the Men’s Health for Scotland 10k for Men. We want to thank all those who supported our group and I am sure we will see even more of them walking or running in next year’s event.”

The MHFS 10k for Men 2011 is due to take place at Bellahouston Park on the 19 of June 2011.
