Friday 16 May

Uh oh! This run is less than a month away and I have done some training but am nowhere near ready for a 10k.

I'll tell you about my secret plan to help prepare for the Mens 10K. I  went to see the hypnotherapist that helped me stop smoking. I was on 20 a day for around 10 years but after one visit haven't smoked since! I asked him to help me self motivate and help me eat regular meals. Eating at different times and skipping meals were both bad habits I had. The thing with hypnotherapy is you have to WANT to do something, its not a miracle cure.

Since my visit I have dropped a bit of weight and now eat regular meals. Before I didn’t get time to eat breakfast but I read that if you do it kick starts yourmetabolism and actually helps loose weigh!

There was a spell of 3 weeks where I was running 3 times a week for maybe 1.5k? Cat from the Real Radio breakfast show is running one of the Race for Life races so we chummed up to run before work. Sadly this stopped after my knees began to hurt like hell! I went to a physio because I was so worried about them and she said be careful not to do much too soon. I think part of the problem was I didn’t do any exercise for years then heaps all of a sudden.

All this talk of running has put me in the mood for one. I'm off to try and mindmy left trainer, it seems to be lost and that’s not an excuse!!!

Wednesday 23rd April

The 10k is just ...... days away and my gym's had a word a word with me because I’m there too often! OK, truth is I haven't done much to get ready for this run and now I feel like a school kid who's not done his homework and its due later today.

That said, I have adjusted my diet dramatically. I used to skip breakfast and munch takeaways at meal times. Now I am getting my five fruit and vegetables a day and am drinking a couple of litres of water a day which has made a big difference to my skin.  Ditching fizzy drinks totally has also been a step in the right direction. The only slip up (all be it a big one) I've made was a two week holiday in Florida.  You can't diet there!

Its been a case of "I'll start tomorrow" and "its the weekend, it can wait till Monday" but I have promised myself, before my show I WILL be going for a run with Cat from the breakfast show who's training for Women’s Race For Life.

I also have a secret weapon for the run and I'll let you know the secret that could change your life in my next update.
