Friday 4th December 2009, Glasgow
Teacher Building, 14 St Enoch Square, Glasgow, G1 4DB
Men’s Health Forum Scotland is hosting a seminar on Friday 4th December 2009 (9.30 am – 3.45pm) focussing on a range of issues relating to men and cancer in Scotland. In order to make this event as accessible as possible, we are pleased to provide it free of charge.
Professor Alan White, Professor of Men’s Health at Leeds Metropolitan University and Chair of the Men’s Health Forum England will present on important research published earlier this year “The Excess Burden of Cancer in Men in the UK”. This report (co-authored by Professor White and published by Cancer Research UK, the National Cancer Intelligence Network, Men's Health Forum and Leeds Metropolitan University) highlights the fact that men are almost 40 per cent more likely than women to die from cancer, and they are 16 per cent more likely to develop the disease in the first place.
The seminar will also focus on examination of men’s knowledge, attitudes and access to services; current service provision in Scotland including the role of the West of Scotland Cancer Network and information on male-specific cancers including prostate cancer. There will be various workshops and opportunities for networking throughout the day. A key focus for the day will be identifying actions for stakeholders in Scotland, and Men's Health Forum Scotland in particular.
Who should attend?
The conference is intended for all those who have an interest in men’s health and an opportunity through professional or other means to impact on the wellbeing of men in Scotland.
