Well-being, Health and You (WHY)

The Centre of Health and Wellbeing, is a social enterprise with charitable status; our product is Wellbeing Health and You (WHY).  We offer clients/patients a bespoke programme of health improvement allowing them to take control of their lifestyle and enhance their existing health care treatments.  WHY aims to improve the general health of everyone in the community, but is initially targeting those with long-term conditions.  WHY will also provide both anticipatory care and secondary prevention.

WHY builds on the success of an NHS Lothian service set up and run by Dr Lubna Kerr for black and minority ethnic people with diabetes.  This won the 2006 DAWN award, an international award given to services improving the lives of hard-to-reach patients with diabetes.

Our key objectives

1. empower patients to manage and improve their health and wellbeing.

2. create a healthy productive workforce and society

3. reduce absenteeism for the long-term sick, reducing employers' £13bn UK-wide annual absenteeism bill

4. reduce admissions to hospital of people with long-term conditions.

How we can work together

We provide health and wellbeing outreach services to the open market and we'd love to work with your business or organisations, helping you to look after the health and wellbeing of staff and members. We can:

  • help you achieve your Healthy Working Lives Awards.
  • attend your event, conference or away day to run a bespoke programme of health and well being activities to suit your needs - such as blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, or complimentary therapies testers and healthy eating demonstrations.

We are a social enterprise company, so your investment goes back to local communities and benefits those most in need of health and wellbeing services.

For more information on WHY please contact Dr Lubna Kerr, Trustee, on 07769 683779 or lubnakerr@talk21.com
