Volunteering

Why it’s so important to us to have volunteers involved

Men's Health Forum Scotland is a small charity with 2 members of staff and it is only due to the strong partnerships we have and great support from our band of volunteers that we are able to stage the 10k for Men every year.

The volunteers we have had over the past couple of year have been brilliant, something that has even been commented on by other event organisers!

We would be delighted if you were able to help us deliver the MHFS 10k for Men 2012; if there isn’t anything you find on the list below that suits you, but you would like to be involved in some other way, please get in touch.

Volunteering Opportunities 2012

Promotion

We are looking for enthusistic volunteers to help promote the 10k for Men at other running events in Scotland – this will include handing out flyers and a lot of smiling! We can give you a quick briefing about what the ethos behind the 10k for Men is, so you are able to answer some of the questions you may be asked.

Events we’d like to target are in the following places;

Shopping Centres (information stand, taking registrations)

Other Running Events

NB: date and venues will be posted nearer the time

Letter Drop – Bellahouston

Date to be confirmed: we will be delivering a letter to the local residents around the area of the event, just to let them know it’s happening, and what, road/ parking/ access restrictions will be in place. The more people we have, the quicker we’ll get it done, so please bring a few friends!

Event Day

Route Stewards – Stewards are situated around the 10k route and are there to ensure the participants go in the correct direction as well as encouraging the men to keep going! We have had great feedback from men in previous years about how a friendly cheer from a steward really helped them on their way!

Bag Drop Tent – We need a couple of volunteers to stand at the door of the bag drop tent.

Secondary Finish – there are a variety of jobs here, including handing out goody bags, bananas, water and T-Shirts, as well as directing the men through the secondary finish area to where they can meet up with family and friends.

Security – there are a few areas around the park and race village which should be secure or sterile so those undertaking the security job would advise people of how they should best get to where they are going.

Water/ Sports Drink Stations – A team of people here to hand out water to the thirsty men as they pass.

Other Jobs – We would like to have people available for other jobs on the day – including general help. This can be anything form helping with commentary (‘spotter’), helping exhibitors, press and media, start/ finish line, runner, help at the information stand etc.
